Asheville – The Family Health Centers of Asheville, Arden & Hominy Valley is proud to be one of the North Carolina Primary Care practices selected to implement the Hearth Health NOW! Program.
Heart Disease continues to be the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. The evidence-based Heart Health NOW! program will help us help our patients prevent heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular events. The program centers on the ABC’S of cardiovascular disease prevention. These are:
- Aspirin for high-risk individuals
- Blood pressure control
- Cholesterol management
- Smoking cessation
Short-term event risk for patients who already have evidence of vascular disease can be cut by 25% with adherence to one or two of the above measures!
The Family Health Centers’ Dr. Wendy Coin says “We want our patients to become more healthy and to live satisfying lives. Our participation in the Heart Health NOW! program gives The Family Health Centers even more tools for helping our patients avoid cardiac events as well as stressful and costly trips to the hospital.”
Heart Health NOW! is funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and is being facilitated by Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC.) The Family Health Centers is excited to start working the program in July, 2016, and we look forward to helping our at-risk patients improve their cardiovascular health.
